Haley Anderson has already collected a silver in open water, indoor swimming to start Sunday.
USC senior and NCAA champion Louise Hansson as well as former Trojan national champs and Olympic medalists Vladimir Morozov, Katinka Hosszu and Cristian Quintero lead 14 past, present and future Trojans representing 13 countries at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, starting Sunday (July 21).
American and Trojan great Haley Anderson actually kicked off the World Championships last week with a silver medal in the open water 10K and was joined in the open water racing by Swedish sophomore Victor Johansson and veteran former Trojan and Tunisian NCAA champion and Olympic gold medalist Ous Mellouli. Anderson also won bronze in the mixed 5k relay on Thursday (July 18).
Hansson, the 2019 NCAA champion in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, will compete for Sweden in the 50- and 100-meter butterfly as well as the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Morozov and Hosszu both have multiple World Championship medals on their resumes. The Russian Morozov will race in the 50m and 100m freestyle next week while the Hungarian Hosszu has a typically challenging schedule planned with the 100m and 200m backstroke, the 200m freestyle and the 200m and 400m I.M.
Quintero, representing Venezuela, will swim the 100m and 200m freestyle. Former teammate Dylan Carter, of Trinidad and Tobago, will swim the 50m and 100m freestyle, the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly while another teammate and NCAA title-winning relay partner Santo Condorelli, representing Italy, will race in the 100m freestyle.
NCAA relay champion Anika Apostalon, swimming for Czechoslovakia, will race in the 50m and 100m freestyle. Romanian Robert Glinta, another Trojan NCAA relay winner, will race in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Junior Nikola Miljenic of Croatia will swim the 50m butterfly and incoming freshman Jack Kirby will compete for Barbados in the 50m and 100m backstroke. Sophomore Alexei Sancov of Moldova will swim the 100m and 200m freestyle.
