Kevin Porter Jr. Selected In The First Round Of The 2019 NBA Draft

Kevin Porter Jr. was selected in the first round by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 30th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., today (June 20). Porter Jr. became the first USC player selected in the first round since Nikola Vucevic was selected 16th overall in the 2011 Draft. Over the past two seasons, USC's three NBA Draft selections are tied for the most in the Pac-12 along with UCLA and USC's six first round draft picks since 2007 are tied for the 13th-most among all college programs.

"We are proud of Kevin (Porter Jr.) and look forward to following his NBA career," said USC head coach Andy Enfield. "He has reached his dream of being selected in the NBA Draft and provided a great example of what dedication and love of the game can do for a young player."

Porter Jr., from South Seattle, Wash., averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21 games (4 starts) for the Trojans during the 2018-19 season. The 6-6 guard was limited due to injuries during the season, but scored in double figures in 11 of the 21 games he played. He also made 41.2 percent (28-for-68) of his three-point attempts. Porter Jr. scored a season-best 17 points in USC's Pac-12 quarterfinal game against Washington. He scored 15 points in his collegiate debut on Nov. 6 vs. Robert Morris, the most points by a USC freshman in his first game since Jordan McLaughlin scored 19 in his debut in 2014.

Porter Jr. became one of the 61 Pac-12 first round NBA Draft picks since 2011, the third-most by any NCAA conference.

USC's three NBA Drafts selections (also De'Anthony Melton and Chimezie Metu in 2018) are tied for the fifth-most among all NCAA programs in the last two drafts.
