7 More Trojans Advance To The NCAA T&F Championships & 10 To NCAA Quarterfinals Tomorrow

Trojans have another strong day at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds
USC had seven athletes qualify for the NCAA Track & Field Championships and 10 Trojans advanced to NCAA quarterfinals tomorrow during the second day of the 2019 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif. today (May 24). To advance to the semifinals at NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas from June 5-8, an athlete or relay must finish in the top 12 at the West Preliminary Rounds. Earning their way to the NCAA Championships today were Angie Annelus in the women's 100m, Anna Cockrell in the women's 400m hurdles, Kyra Constantine in the women's 400m, Isaiah Jewett in the men's 800m, Cameron Samuel in the men's 400m hurdles, TeeTee Terry in the women's 100m and Lanae-Tava Thomas in the women's 100m.
Men – Eric Allen Jr. (200m – quarterfinal), Matthew Katnik (shot put), Marquis Morris (110m hurdles – quarterfinal), Omotade Ojora (110m hurdles – quarterfinal), Earnest Sears III (high jump).
Women – Angie Annelus (200m – quarterfinal), Chanel Brissett (100m hurdles – quarterfinal), Anna Cockrell (100m hurdles – quarterfinal), Karlee Freeman (shot put), Dior Hall (100m hurdles – quarterfinal), Isabella Marten (triple jump), Mecca McGlaston (100m hurdles – quarterfinal),TeeTee Terry (200m – quarterfinal), Lanae-Tava Thomas (200m – quarterfinal),  4x100m, 4x400m.

- Kyra Constantine automatically advanced to the NCAA Championships in the women's 400m dash by winning the first quarterfinal heat with a time of 51.70. That time ended up being the top qualifier on the day. Bailey Lear finished fourth in the final quarterfinal with a time of 52.94 which ended up 15th overall, so she will not advance. Kaelin Roberts was a scratch from the third heat with lower right leg soreness, so she too is out of the NCAA Championships in the 400m.
- USC's three women's 100m runners all advanced to nationals with ease. Lanae-Tava Thomas won the first quarterfinal with a time of 11.19 (+1.0), followed by Angie Annelus at 11.20 (+1.0) to automatically advance. TeeTee Terry then won the second heat with a time of 11.14 (+0.2) to automatically advance. After all three quarterfinals, Terry had the second-fastest qualifying time, Thomas the third and Annelus the fourth.
- Brendon Stewart had a time of 10.44 (+1.1) to finish seventh in the final men's 100m quarterfinal and 20th overall, so he did not qualify for Nationals in the event.
- Jemima Russell had a season-best time of 2:04.95 to finish sixth and Alyssa Brewer a time of 2:05.10 to finish seventh in the final women's 800m quarterfinal and did not advance to the NCAA Championships in the event, despite both having faster times than some of the automatic qualifiers as the top three in each heat plus next three best times advanced. Russell ended up 12th overall and beat two of the automatic qualifiers and Brewer was 14th and beat one of the automatic qualifiers. Russell moved from ninth to eighth on USC's all-time 800m list, which Brewer is seventh on with her best of 2:04.93.
- Isaiah Jewett automatically advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 800m by winning the first quarterfinal heat with a time of 1:46.33. Sam VanDorpe had a PR of 1:48.88 in the same heat to finish fifth and had to wait out the final two heats. He survived the second heat, but the fourth runner in the final quarterfinal ran 1:48.38 to push VanDorpe to 13th, one spot out of advancing to the NCAA Championships. Jewett ended up with the third-fastest qualifying time. VanDorpe's PR of 1:48.88 ended up being the top time by an NCAA male freshman runner this season.
- Anna Cockrell won the third NCAA quarterfinal heat in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.83 to automatically advance to the NCAA Championships in the event. Her time ended up being the third-fastest qualifying time.
- Cameron Samuel won the second quarterfinal heat in the men's 400m hurdles with the fastest time of the day of 49.28. He automatically advances to the NCAA Championships in the event.
- Karlee Freeman got the day started for the Trojans in the women's discus throw. Her best mark went for 161-5 (49.21m) which was good for 31st. She was one of just three freshmen to qualify for the West Preliminary Rounds in the event and there are no freshmen which have advanced from either regional to the NCAA Championships in the event.
- The running portion began with the women's 100m hurdles and all four Trojans automatically advanced to tomorrow's NCAA quarterfinal. First, Dior Hall took second in the second heat with a time of 13.10 (+1.2). Chanel Brissett then won the third heat with a time of 13.01 (+1.7) to advance. Then, Anna Cockrell won the fifth heat with a time of 13.09 (+1.7) and Mecca McGlaston was third in the same heat with a time of 13.23 (+1.7). Brissett qualified sixth, Cockrell seventh, Hall eighth and McGlaston 16th on time among the qualifiers.
- The men's 110m hurdles were next and both Marquis Morris and Omotade Ojora automatically advanced by taking second in their heats. Morris tied a season best of 13.71 (+1.7) and finished fourth overall and Ojora had a time of 13.87 (+0.1) and finished 12th overall.
- All three Trojan women in the 200m dash advanced to tomorrow's NCAA quarterfinal in the event. Angie Annelus won the first heat with a time of 22.72 (-0.1) and TeeTee Terry was second in the heat with a time of 23.17 (-0.1). Lanae-Tava Thomas won the fourth heat with a PR of 22.79 (+1.5) which moved her to ninth on USC's all-time list in the event. Annelus had the fastest qualifying time, Thomas the second-fastest and Terry the ninth-fastest.
- Eric Allen Jr. had a big PR of 20.50 (+1.3) to place second in the fifth men's 200m heat to automatically advance to the quarterfinal tomorrow. Brendon Stewart had a windy PR of 21.00 (+2.4w) to finish sixth in the third heat and finished 26th overall. Daniel Robinson had a time of 21.23 (+1.7) to finish fifth in the second heat and finished 35th overall.
