GRAND LAKE, Colo. – USC women's lacrosse senior defender Jackie Gilbert (Pleasanton, Calif.); junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller (Bayport, N.Y.); sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff (Eastport, N.Y.); and sophomore goalie Riley Hertford (Lake Oswego, Ore.) were each named to 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Associate All-West/Midwest Region teams on Tuesday, May 21.
Â
Gilbert and Miller were each chosen to the first team while Huff and Hertford received second-team all-region notice. Miller's selection is her third-career all-region award and her second time on the first time. Gilbert was a second-team choice in 2018 and receives her second-career award. Huff and Hertford are each first-time choices. The four Women of Troy chosen to the all-region teams gives the USC program 25 all-time IWLCA all-region players with 12 first-team and 13 second-team selections.
Â
The IWLCA honors 128 student-athletes in NCAA Division I with selections to one of the all-region teams. Student-athletes named for this award are now eligible to be placed on a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will celebrate the 2019 All-Americans during Divisional All-American Specials, which will be aired on Lax Sports Network in mid-June.
Â
Miller was chosen as the Pac-12's Midfielder of the Year for the second straight season and was an IWLCA All-American in 2018. She was a Pac-12 All-Conference first-team choice and was named the Pac-12 Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Miller led the Pac-12 with 41 caused turnovers and had 56 ground balls to rank second on the team.
Â
Gilbert was named the Pac-12's Defensive Player of the Year, a member of the Pac-12 All-Conference first team, and was chosen to the Pac-12 all-academic team. Gilbert led the Pac-12 in draw controls (6.10 dcpg) and was second in caused turnovers (1.45 ctpg).
Â
Hertford was a Pac-12 All-Conference first-team choice after leading the Pac-12 with 8.26 goals-against average and a .498 save percentage. Hertford was also chosen for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2019. Huff earned Pac-12 All-Conference first-team notice and was a member of the league's all-tournament team. She led the Trojans with 43 goals and 50 points. Huff scored five game-winning goals, picked up 35 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers for the Women of Troy.
Â
USC won the Pac-12's regular-season crown with a 9-1 league mark and then claimed wins over California and Colorado to win the Pac-12 tournament. It was the Trojans' third league crown following MPSF championships in 2016 and '17. Seventh-year head coach Lindsey Munday was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year and Miller was awarded the Pac-12 Midfielder of the Year honor for the second season in a row. The Trojans received the program's fourth NCAA bid and faced Denver in the first round, but fell in a narrow 11-10 overtime decision to the Pioneers.
