USC Women's Rowing Places Sixth at Pac-12 Championships
May 19, 2019 | Women's Rowing, Features
GOLD RIVER, CALIF.--The No. 13 ranked USC women's rowing team placed sixth overall at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships today (May 19) at the Sacramento State Aquatics Center at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Washington Huskies won the Pac-12 Women's Rowing Championship title for the third year in a row. For a full list of team finishes and the official Pac-12 release, click here.
"It was a disappointing day for the Women of Troy," said head coach Josh Adam. "The 1V8 had a decent race against a fast field, but even they noted that their rhythm wasn't their best. As the wind and rain picked up for the 2V8 and 1V4 races, the women struggled to execute what we have been working on in practice. We have to own the results, however it is disappointing."
For a full list of times and boatings, see below.
With the looming thunderstorms on the horizon, the races were forced to begin at 8 a.m. PT to avoid the rain. The Varsity Eight hit the water first. Coxed by Annika Christensen, the Trojans came in fourth place with a time of 6:24.901. Chloe Brew stroked for the Trojans and was followed by Ludovica Braglia, Radka Novotnikova, Krete Koovit, Astrid Steensberg Claudia Cabula, Kasia Pilch and Dori Bene in the bow.
Up next, the Second Varsity Eight placed seventh with a final time of 7:34.110. Maddy Kim guided the Trojan boat with Marliis Reinkort in the stroke. Reinkort was followed by Brooke Downes, Ieva Medelinskaite, Lena Schröder, Ryleigh Megill, Olivia Passanisi-Boullet, Margaret Cirino and Molly Eberh in the bow.
Wrapping up the morning was the Varsity Four. Coxed by Olivia Lau, the Women of Troy finished in seventh plave clocking in at a time of 8:00.838. Lauren Blonien powered the stroke followed by Amanda Sutrick, Bridget Parker and Anicka Mackova in the bow.
USC did not enter a Novice boat or a Third Varsity Eight.
On Tuesday (May 21), the Women of Troy will await the results from the NCAA Rowing Selection Show that will air 2 p.m. PT at NCAA.com. Should the Trojans be selected to participate in the NCAA Championship, they will travel to Indianapolis to compete from May 31-June 2.
