USC Women’s Rowing to Face Off Against UCLA in Annual Crosstown Dual
May 10, 2019 | Women's Rowing, Features
LOS ANGELES--The No. 15 USC women's rowing team will travel west to Marina del Rey, Calif. to challenge UCLA in the annual dual meet on Saturday (May 11). The Women of Troy have never lost to the Bruins in the 17 all-time meetings of the two crews.
The dual will begin at 5 p.m. PT as the Second Varsity Eight hits the water first. The Third Varsity Eight and Novice Eight will then race at 5:15 p.m. PT, and the Varsity Four will follow at 5:30 pm. PT. Finally, the Varsity Eight will close out the evening with the final race at 5:45 p.m. PT.
Should the Trojans win the dual, they will clinch the Crosstown Cup for USC Athletics.
To highlight the year-long all-sports competition between crosstown rivals USC and UCLA, the Crosstown Cup (formerly Gauntlet Trophy) has been awarded annually since 2001-02 to the school with the most successful athletic year against the other. Points are awarded to the winner of each Trojan-Bruin head-to-head contest and the Crosstown Cup is awarded to the school with the most points at year's end. USC has won the Crosstown Cup 10 times in the competition's 17 years, including a span of 5 consecutive years: 2001-02, 2003-04, 2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14 and 2015-16.
Last year, the Trojans defeated the Bruins 5-2 to win their 17thconsecutive dual by winning the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight races. UCLA won the Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight races.
