Connor Lunn Tosses Complete-Game Shutout Against Washington State
April 18, 2019 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – Two weeks after coming an out away from a complete game against No. 1 UCLA, Connor Lunn finished off his first career complete-game shutout against Washington State on Thursday night, shutting down the Cougars in a 4-0 win for the USC Trojans.
The Trojans scored twice early and added a pair of runs in the eighth to move to 16-20 on the season and 7-9 in Pac-12 play. Washington State falls to 8-26 overall and 1-12 in conference action.
Lunn threw just over 100 pitches and had no walks in the game while scattering four hits. He moves to 6-1 on the year and has yet to go less than six innings in a start. The junior righty stranded runners in scoring position in the second and third innings and then allowed just one runner past first base the rest of the way.
The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Brady Shockey in the second and then added a run on an RBI groundout by Ben Ramirez in the third. John Thomas would single home a run in the eighth and Shockey added another RBI on a sacrifice fly that was dropped.
The Trojans recorded 11 hits in the game, giving them double-digit hit totals in eight of their last nine games.
