Trojans Drop Series Finale at Utah, 5-4
April 13, 2019 | Baseball, Features
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The USC baseball team rallied for a run with two outs in the ninth, but left the tying and go-ahead runs on base for the second straight game, falling 5-4 to Utah on Saturday afternoon.
USC got a two-out RBI single from Chase Bushor in the ninth, but a groundout to short ended the game with runners on first and second. The Trojans drop to 14-20 overall with the loss and 6-9 in Pac-12 play, while Utah improves to 10-19 overall and 3-12 in conference action.
The Trojans and Utes again traded punches throughout the game, with Utah going ahead early and USC coming back to tie it up in the third. The Utes would plate two runs in the bottom half of the inning, only to see the Trojans score in the fourth and fifth to make it a 3-3 game. Erick Migueles would double home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth and Oliver Dunn singled home the eventual winning run in the seventh for Utah.
CJ Stubbs led off the ninth for USC with a double and after a Brady Shockey single the Trojans had runners on the corners. Bushor's fourth hit of the day made it a one-run game.
