USC Falls 5-4 on the Road at Utah
April 12, 2019 | Baseball, Features
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The USC baseball team posted 11 hits on the day and had two runners in scoring position in the ninth, but couldn't push across the runs they needed late in a 5-4 loss at Utah on Friday.
USC falls to 14-19 overall and 6-8 in Pac-12 play, while the Utes move to 9-18 overall and 2-12 in conference action.
The Trojans fell behind early, giving up runs in the first and fourth innings, but came back with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Chase Bushor and a run-scoring groundout. In what was a back-and-forth contest most of the way, Utah answered with a pair of doubles to bring home a run in the bottom half of the inning and go back up 3-2.
Ben Ramirez would tie things up for the Trojans in the sixth, singling to right to score Jamal O'Guinn, but two runs for the Utes in the bottom half of the inning put things out of reach. USC scored one in the seventh on a Blake Sabol sacrifice fly, but that was it for the rest of the day. The Trojans tried to rally with two outs in the ninth, getting singles from Sabol and CJ Stubbs, but a groundout ended the game.
