The Women of Troy claimed all five matches in straight sets to complete a 5-0 sweep of the Horned Frogs
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (8-1) extended its winning streak to seven straight duals on a 5-0 sweep of No. 19 TCU (5-5) at the East Meets West Invitational on Saturday, March 9, at the Manhattan Beach Pier. The win was the Trojans' fourth all-time against the Horned Frogs without a loss and was also USC's fourth 5-0 sweep of the season.
The Trojans scored the first dual point with a win at the top court as senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina completed a 21-17, 21-11 win over Jaelyn Greene and Victoria McDonald for their 40th all-time victory as a pair. It was also the duo's ninth straight to start the season. The second point came from the middle of the lineup when sophomore Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto turned in a 21-16, 21-16 win over Taylor Bradley and Claire Doyle to remain undefeated (9-0) this season. It was the 19th win as a pair for Hallgren and Poletto.
USC's tandem of senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater delivered the knockout blow with a 21-18, 21-12 win over Haven Hill and Molly Scheel at the No. 2 position. The fourth point of the dual came from court four. The Trojans' junior duo of Joy Dennis and Cammie Dorn picked up a 21-15, 21-16 win over Jordan Westendorff and Caroline White in their first match together this season.
The sweep went into the books when freshman Mollie Ebertin and sophomore Maja Kaiser completed their 21-17, 22-20 win over Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett at the No. 5 position. The USC pair had played together in the fall but officially logged their first collegiate match together with the win.
Up next, USC plays No. 6 Louisiana State on Sunday, March 10, at 10 a.m. in Manhattan Beach. The Trojans conclude the East Meets West Invitational with a rematch against No. 4 Florida State at 3 p.m.
