No. 2 USC Beach Beats No. 6 LSU and No. 4 Florida State

The Women of Troy won their eighth and ninth straight duals to improve to 10-1 on the season
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (10-1) earned a 4-1 win over No. 6 Louisiana State (7-4) and posted a 3-2 victory over No. 4 Florida State (11-4) to conclude play at the East Meets West Invitational on Sunday, March 10.
The Women of Troy avenged a loss to the Tigers suffered in last year's East Meets West tournament an improved to 2-1 all-time against LSU. USC beat the Seminoles by the same score for the second time in four days and improved to 10-4 all-time against FSU.
The Trojans got wins at all positions but No. 5 to beat LSU. At the top of the lineup, senior Abril Bustamante and sophomore Tina Graudina dispatched of Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss, 21-14, 21-14, to get things started. USC went up, 2-0, with a win at the No. 4 position where juniors Joy Dennis and Cammie Dorn put a 21-11, 21-11 win over Megan Davenport and Taryn Kloth into the books.
Senior Terese Cannon and sophomore Sammy Slater teamed up to beat Olivia Powers and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope, 21-11, 21-17, to clinch the dual victory from the No. 2 position. LSU scored its only dual point with a win at the No. 5 spot where Allison Coens and Hunter Domanski defeated USC's duo of freshman Mollie Ebertin and sophomore Maja Kaiser. The final point was added by sophomore Haley Hallgren and senior Alexandra Poletto. The tandem beat Kelli Agnew and Toni Rodriguez, 21-14, 28-26.
Against the Seminoles, the Trojans went down by a point when Florida State claimed a win at the No. 4 position. There, Molly McBain and Kate Privett defeated Dennis and Dorn, 21-11, 21-9. USC answered quickly to equalize the match on a win by Ebertin and Kaiser on court five. The duo defeated Macy Jerger and Jenna Johnson, 21-15, 21-18.
The Trojans went on top, 2-1, with a win from court three. There, Hallgren and Poletto completed a 21-19, 22-20 victory over Payton Caffrey and Sara Putt to improve to 11-0 on the season. The tandem also won its 20 and 21st all-time matches together.
The clinching point against Florida State came from the top of the lineup. Bustamante and Graudina remained undefeated as well and moved to 11-0 this season on a 21-12, 21-15 win over Brooke Kuhlman and Payton Rund.
With the dual decided, Cannon and Slater went to a third set with Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick. The Trojan pair won the first, 21-16, but dropped the second, 21-19. Chacon and Fitzpatrick led, 5-3, early but were knotted at 14-all late in the frame. The Seminoles scored a 17-15 win to avenge a loss to Cannon and Slater from Thursday and made the final score, 3-2, for USC.
The Trojans head east for four duals this week. USC takes on No. 12 South Carolina at 10 a.m. ET and then faces host No. 18 Georgia State at 12:30 p.m. ET in duals in Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday, March 12. The Women of Troy then travel southward to take on No. 11 Florida Atlantic and No. 9 Florida International at the FIU Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Friday, March 15.
