Lunn Shines in 7-2 Win Over No. 1 UCLA

Lunn was just a hitter short of a complete game as he stifled the UCLA bats all evening to move USC to a 10-14 overall record and 3-4 conference mark. The Bruins fall to 18-5 overall and 5-2 Pac-12.
The Trojans got on the board in the first thanks to an RBI single by Blake Sabol and then added a run in the third when Jamal O'Guinn hit an RBI groundout to bring home CJ Stubbs. Matthew Acosta would really give the Trojans some breathing room, hitting a mammoth two-run shot to right in the fifth inning to make it 4-0. Chase Bushor singled home O'Guinn later in the fifth inning as well.
UCLA finally got on the board in the sixth when Michael Toglia hit a two-out RBI single, but Lunn would respond with his sixth strikeout of the game to end the inning and strand two runners. He wouldn't allow another baserunner until two outs in the eighth, and only gave up another run with two outs in the ninth before exiting to a standing ovation. Austin Manning came in to face the final batter of the day, getting a strikeout to end the game.
Chase Bushor added a two-run double off the wall in left to cap the scoring for USC on the day. The Trojans scored in four of the eight innings they came up to bat in and had seven players hit safely on the day. USC outhit UCLA 10-7 in the game.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Connor Lunn tossed a career-high 8.2 innings, matching his career high with eight strikeouts on the day. He scattered seven hits in the game and gave up just two runs while walking four.
- Matthew Acosta had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the leadoff spot for the Trojans, hitting his second homer of the year.
- Chase Bushor was 2-for-4 on the day, driving in a team-high three runs.

USC continues its series with No. 1 UCLA this weekend, with 4 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday. Both games will be televised on Pac-12 Los Angeles.
