No. 22 Trojan Lacrosse Downs Ducks For 14-5 Victory

The Women of Troy extend to a season-long five-game winning streak on their win over Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 22-ranked USC lacrosse team (8-1, 3-0 Pac-12) extended to a season-long five game winning streak with a 14-5 victory over Oregon (2-7, 0-4) on Papé Field on Saint Patrick's Sunday, March 17.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Sophomore attacker Sophia Donovan scored three goals and recorded her fourth consecutive hat trick game; the fifth of her career. She finished with four points with an assist and a ground ball.
  • Five other Women of Troy scored two goals apiece including senior attacker Emily Concialdi, junior attackers Izzy McMahon and Hope Anhut, junior midfielder Kaeli Huff, and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff. Junior attacker Amanda Flayhan scored one. Kelsey Huff and Concialdi each had assists.
  • The Trojan defense held the Ducks to one first-half goal and allowed only two goals through 45 minutes of the game. Senior Jackie Gilbert led all players with seven draw controls and had two of the Trojans' nine caused turnovers. Juniors Natalie Byrne and Morgan Kuligowski; and sophomore Lizzy Wagner helped shut down the crease and held the Oregon attack to just four shots through 45 minutes of the game.
  • For Oregon, Lillian Stump, Carlie Leach, Marlee Moon Gaddy, Haileigh Farell, and Shannon Williams each scored one goal apiece. Williams had two assists on each of the Ducks first two goals. In goal, Rachel Hall put up 17 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Trojans scored five unanswered goals through the first eight minutes of the game, but the Ducks ended the run on Stump's goal at 21:13. McMahon scored at 19:30 for a 6-1 USC lead, but neither team scored until the 5:12 mark of the first half. The Trojans closed on a 3-0 run to lead, 8-1, at the break.
  • Through the belly of the game, USC's defense shined and helped hold the Ducks to just 12 shots (nine on goal) including only four through the first 45 minutes of the contest. The suffocating Trojans also forced the Ducks into 19 turnovers.
  • Concialdi scored the first two USC goals of the second half and sandwiched the one by Leach. Concialdi's second goal was the first of five straight for the Trojans who led, 14-2, with 14:49 to play. With the game in hand, USC took its foot off the gas and held the Ducks to three goals before the final horn for a 14-5 final.
UP NEXT
  • The Trojans return home to host their first Pac-12 home games at McAlister Field. First, USC faces California (4-6, 1-2 Pac-12) on Saturday (March 23) for a noon PT start. The Trojans and the Bears will be shown live on the Pac-12+ stream platform. On Monday (March 25), the Women of Troy take on Stanford (6-2, 2-1) for a rare 4 p.m. start, which will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks (Los Angeles and Bay Area).
GAME NOTES
  • USC improved to 6-3 all-time against Oregon and avenged a loss to the Ducks suffered in Eugene, last spring (18-11).
  • The Trojans also improved to 4-2 all-time in the state of Oregon.
  • USC's five-game winning streak is the longest of the season and the longest since it won 12 in a row between March 26 and May 14, 2017.
