FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (13-2) won its third straight dual with a pair of 4-1 victories over No. 16 Florida Atlantic (6-4) and No. 8 Florida International (6-5) in the FIU Fort Lauderdale Tournament at the Fort Lauderdale State Beach on Friday, March 15.
Â
The Trojans scored three-set victories at the top three courts against the Owls, highlighted by a win at the No. 2 position where senior
Terese Cannon got her 100th-career win. There, she teamed with sophomore
Sammy Slater to deliver USC's clinching point with a 21-17, 17-21, 15-12 win over Erica Brok and Mackenzie Morris. Cannon became the eighth Trojan beach volleyball player to eclipse the 100-career win plateau.
Â
At the top court, senior
Abril Bustamante and sophomore
Tina Graudina completed a 21-19, 20-22, 15-6 win over FAU's Nivole Navarro and Carly Scarbrough, and then claimed a tough 16-21, 27-25, 15-13 win over FIU's Margherita Bianchin and Federica Frasca. The second win was the 45th all-time win as a pair for Bustamante and Graudina, which moves the duo into sole possession of fifth place all-time in USC history.
Â
Cannon and Slater claimed a 21-16, 21-13 win over the Panthers' Brooke McDermott and Helene Thelle for their 39th victory as a pair, which ties for eighth all-time among USC pairs.
Â
USC improves to 2-0 all-time against Florida Atlantic and to 6-0 against Florida International. The Trojans also go to 15-2 all-time on the East Coast.
Â
Up next, the Trojans head to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State, No. 5 Pepperdine, and No. 6 Hawai'i at the PERA Club for the 2019 ASU Invitational on Friday and Saturday (March 22-23).
