LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 16 Arkansas in the series opener between the two teams.
The Trojans cut a 6-0 deficit in half with a three-run fourth inning, but left three runners on the rest of the way. USC falls to 2-2 on the year, while the Razorbacks improve to 4-0.
Arkansas put up three runs in the second inning courtesy of a bases-loaded double by Casey Martin. The Razorbacks scored two more in the third on a sac fly and single, then added an unearned run in the fourth to cap their scoring.
The Trojan bullpen shut things down from there, with Austin Manning giving up just one unearned run in 2.1 innings and Isaac Esqueda threw the final 3.2 scoreless innings.
USC loaded the bases in the fourth and used two walks and a hit-by-pitch to bring home three runs. Arkansas went to the pen and got the final out of the inning as Kole Ramage got a strikeout to strand the bases loaded. Ramage would pick up the win for the visitors.
