Trojans Can't Hold Lead Against No. 16 Arkansas, Fall 8-6

LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team let an early lead slip away against No. 16 Arkansas in a back-and-forth game on Friday night at Dedeaux Field, falling 8-6 in the second game of a three-game series.
USC falls to 2-3 with the loss, while the Razorbacks improve to 5-0.
The Trojans erased an early 1-0 deficit with a four-run third inning in which they sent eight men to the plate. USC capitalized on a pair of Arkansas errors and got RBI singles from Matthew Acosta and Jamal O'Guinn.
The Razorbacks would come back with two runs in each of the next three innings, including a two-run homer from Casey Martin in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
USC would score two in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run single from CJ Stubbs to make it a 7-6 game. Arkansas would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth and got a 1-2-3 bottom half of the inning from their closer, Matt Cronin, for the save.

The Trojans close their series against Arkansas with a 6 p.m. game on Saturday night. USC then welcomes UC Santa Barbara for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday next week.

- Jamal O'Guinn went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, a double and a run scored.
- Blake Sabol was also 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- CJ Stubbs drove in a team-high two runs.
- Connor Lunn tossed the final 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and one run, with four strikeouts and two walks.
