Senior OH Khalia Lanier received her second-career selection to the AVCA’s All-America team
PITTSBURGH – USC women's volleyball senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Preparatory) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America second team on Wednesday, Dec. 18. It is Lanier's second-career All-America award (first team in 2017) and is the 77th All-America certificate for the USC program.
Â
Lanier received honorable All-America status as a freshman and a junior (2016 and 2018) and is a four-time AVCA All-Pacific South Region team choice. She is only the third player in program history to be chosen for All-Pac-12 honors four times in her career (Samantha Bricio, April Ross). As a senior, she ranked second in the Pac-12 in kills (4.92 kps); second in points (5.39 pps); and was ninth for service aces (0.26 saps). She completed her career in second all-time in school history for career kills (2,025), and attacks (5,410); third in points (2,254.0); and fifth for service aces (136).
Â
Lanier's 2,025 kills rank sixth in Pac-12 history. She is only the fifth player in league history to collect 2,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs (1,039). Entering the season, Lanier held a previous career-high of 29 kills in a single match. She logged four 30-plus kills matches and became the first Pac-12 player in the 25-point rally-scoring era to reach the 40-kill mark (second in USC history; fifth in Pac-12 history) in a match against Utah on Nov. 7. Lanier was twice chosen for Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors (Nov. 4, Nov. 11) this season and was named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week (Nov. 12).
Â
Under second-year head coach Brent Crouch, USC faced one of the nation's toughest schedules and finished the regular season with an 18-14 overall record despite myriad injuries and changes to the Trojans' lineup. The Women of Troy went 11-9 in the Pac-12 and landed in sixth place. USC received an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament and made its 37th all-time appearance in the tourney (29th straight) where the Trojans advanced to the second round before falling to top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Baylor.
