Okongwu Named Pac-12 Freshman Of The Week

Freshman forward Onyeka Okongwu posted a double-double in USC's victory over Long Beach State on Dec. 15 and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week of Dec. 9-15, it was announced by the Pac-12 today (Dec. 16). Okongwu was also named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Nov. 25. He has earned three Pac-12 weekly honors (two Freshman of the Week and one Player of the Week-also Nov. 25) to lead all Conference players.
The 6-9 forward scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in USC's 87-76 victory over Long Beach State on Dec. 15, tallying 24 of his points in the second half. He also had a career-best three steals. For Okongwu, it was his fifth double-double of the season and fifth game scoring at least 20 points.
Through his first 11 career games, Okongwu is averaging 18.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.09 blocks per game, while shooting 62.2 percent from the field. His 34 total blocks already rank ninth on USC's all-time freshman blocks list. Among all freshmen nationally, he ranks
first in total field goals made (79), tied for first in total blocks (34), second in total points (202) and blocks per game (3.09), tied for third in double-doubles (5) and total rebounds (99), fourth in field goal percentage (62.2 percent), fifth in points per game (18.4), free throws made (44) and offensive rebounds per game (3.36) and seventh in rebounds per game (9.0).
