Harward was a two-time All-Big West selection at Long Beach State
LOS ANGELES – The three-time national champion USC beach volleyball team will add two-time Big West honoree Hailey Harward (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS) via transfer from Long Beach State, head coach Dain Blanton announced on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
"We are so excited to welcome Hailey to the Trojan Family," said Blanton. "Her experience, leadership, and work ethic are going to make an immediate impact on our team. Hailey's positive and competitive attitude are right in line with the Trojan women's beach volleyball culture."
Harward played on the beach for LBSU in the 2017 and 2018 seasons and was a two-time All-Big West second-team choice. As a freshman, she went 23-10 overall and played primarily at the No. 3 position with Anete Brinke where the duo went 17-8. Harward and Brinke were chosen to the all-conference second team at season's end. In her sophomore year, Harward produced a 21-8 overall record and went 19-4 at the No. 3 position primarily with Kristyna Adamcikova (16-2). She was chosen to the All-Big West second team with Adamcikova in 2018. Harward leaves Long Beach State with a 44-18 individual record.
Harward didn't play the 2019 season and focused on completing her indoor volleyball eligibility where she played three seasons as an outside hitter and one as the libero for Long Beach State. She was a two-time All-Big West first-team selection (2017, '19) and received honorable mention as a junior in 2018. Harward was also on the Big West All-Freshman Team in 2016. She was a four-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week selection and finished her career with 1,602 digs, 445 kills, 116 service aces, and 86 blocks. Her dig total ranks third all-time in Long Beach State career history.
Outside of collegiate athletics, Harward spent five years as a member of the USA Volleyball A1 Select program, the Youth National Team, and the Women's Junior National Training Team. She helped the A1 Select Red Team win bronze medals in 2012 and silver in 2013. She also won a silver medal with the Youth National Team in 2014 and picked up another silver medal with Team USA at the 2016 NORCECA Women's U20 Continental Championship.
Harward has played in five AVP events and earned a career-best ninth-place finish at the 2018 Hermosa Beach Open with partner Kathryn Plummer (Stanford). She finished 17th at the same event in 2017 with partner Claire Coppola (LSU).
The Women of Troy begin a new era in 2019-20 under first-year head coach Dain Blanton. The Olympic gold-medalist took the reins in late July following the retirement of eight-year head coach Anna Collier. Blanton and assistant coach Gustavo Rocha will lead the Trojans into the program's ninth season in a quest for a fourth Pac-12 title and fourth national championship.
A three-time national champion, USC finished as the NCAA runner-up in 2019 with a 32-6 overall record. The Trojans eclipsed the 30-win total for the third time and claimed the program's third Pac-12 Championship with a dramatic 3-2 win over crosstown rival UCLA. Collier was chosen as the AVCA National Coach of the Year and the Pac-12 Coach of the Year and became the first and only coach to cross the 200-career victory plateau. Abril Bustamante and Tina Graudina were named the Pac-12 Pair of the Year with Graudina the Player of the Year. The duo was chosen for AVCA All-America honors alongside Terese Cannon and Sammy Slater.
