Onishi and Lin secure Trojan point against Alabama; two pairs tie against Stanford.
The USC men's golf team fell in a pair of tightly fought matches today at the Cypress Point Classic at the Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif., dropping a 2-1 decision to host Stanford in the first round of fourball and again by the same score to Alabama in the foursome consolation finals.
In the opening fourball match against the Cardinal, USC's first pair of sophomore Cameron Henry and junior Leon D'Souza played to a tie with Stanford's Ethan Ng and Nate Menon.
Troy's second pair of senior Kyle Suppa and junior Issei Tanabe tied as well with Stanford's Henry Shimp and Daulet Tuleubayev.
The Cardinal captured the decisive point as David Snyder and Barclay Brown defeated USC junior Kaito Onishi and freshman Yuxin Lin, 2&1.
Onishi and Lin secured a win in their consolation foursome semifinal match against Alabama's Wilson Furr and Simms Abney, 2&1, but that was Troy's only victory in the 2-1 loss to the Crimson Tide.
Henry and D'Souza fell 3&2 to Davis Shore and Prescott Butler while Tanabe and Suppa dropped their match to Frankie Capan and Thomas Ponder, 2up.
USC will square off against California in the seventh-place match consisting of six singles matches on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m.
