Trojans Complete Sweep in Oregon with 3-0 Win Over Ducks

Senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier scored 15 kills to move into fourth place all-time at USC in career kills
EUGENE, Ore. – The USC women's volleyball team (11-7, 5-3 Pac-12) defeated Oregon (6-11, 2-6) in a three-set sweep (25-23, 25-23, 25-23) at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday, Oct. 20. It was the Trojans' first sweep of an opponent since Sept. 20 (Long Beach State) and USC's first 2-0 weekend in conference play this season.

KEY PLAYERS
- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier led all players with 17.5 points and scored those on 15 kills (6e, 46att, .196), two service aces, and a block. Lanier also had seven digs. The 15 kills gave Lanier 1,705 in her career and moved her into fourth place at USC in career kills (ahead of Jasmina Marinkovic; 1995-98). It was also Lanier's 14th match in double-digit kills this season.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross totaled 10 kills (1e, 19att) and hit .474 to go with two blocks and a service ace for 12 points.
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro recorded 35 assists and registered her 12th double-double of the season (24th career) with 10 digs.
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske logged eight kills (2e, 23att, .261) and had 12 digs, three blocks, and a service ace.
- Defensively, Sr. libero Raegan LeGrand led USC with 17 digs and freshman defender Keila Barra had six digs.
- For the Ducks, Brooke Nuneviller led with eight kills and 14 digs. Willow Johnson had seven kills. Elise Ferreira had 16 assists, 10 digs, and served two of Oregon's 11 aces. Ronika Stone had six kills and three aces.
- USC led by as many as four in the first set but the Ducks fought back to catch the Trojans at 14-all. Oregon went in front by three, 22-19, but the Women of Troy rallied to score a 6-1 run to end the set, 25-23.
- The score was tied 13 times and the lead changed hands four times before USC grabbed a 25-23 win on a 3-0 run to end the set with a kill by Weske, a kill by Gross, and the final point on a service ace by Weske.
- The Trojans built up a five-point lead at 11-6, but Oregon made a game of it to tie the score, 15-all. USC led by four again at 23-19 threatening the sweep, but the Ducks continued to chip away at the Trojan lead. Lanier scored her 14th and 15th kill of the match to earn the points needed for a 25-23 win and put the sweep into the books.
- The Women of Troy close out the first half of the Pac-12 schedule as hosts to California on Friday (Oct. 25) and defending league champion Stanford on Sunday (Oct. 27) at Galen Center. Both matches will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 55-13 all-time against Oregon (28-5 in Eugene); the Trojans' sixth win in eight meetings with the Ducks.
- The Trojans improved to 55-11 all-time in the state of Oregon.
- Since 2011, USC is 22-5 in sets played at Matthew Knight Arena and 7-1 in matches against the Ducks.
- The Trojans earned a 2-0 weekend sweep in Pac-12 play for the first time this season.
- USC's 3-0 sweep was its fourth of the year and improves the Trojans to 4-0 in three-set matches. It was the first sweep over an opponent since Sept. 20 against Long Beach State (in San Diego, Calif.).
- For the fourth match in a row, USC had 10 or fewer players available for the match; nine total for second straight contest.
