USC To Host National Power Villanova Friday At Galen

Exhibition proceeds to benefit the California Fire Foundation
FRIDAY'S GAME - USC will host Villanova in an exhibition game at the Galen Center on Oct. 18 at 8:00 p.m. Proceeds from the game will benefit the California Fire Foundation, which provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters and the communities they protect. Friday's exhibition game is USC's first open-to-the-public preseason game since hosting Cal State Los Angeles on Nov. 8, 2014.
THE 2019-20 USC TROJANS -- The USC men's basketball team will have a new look for the 2019-20 season as the core four of Jonah Mathews, Nick Rakocevic, Elijah Weaver and Charles O'Bannon Jr. will be joined by nine newcomers which includes one of the top recruiting classes nationally. The 2019-20 Trojans will be a team with many interchangeable parts and feature players who can guard multiple positions. USC has won 87 games over the last four seasons, the winningest four-year stretch in school history and the 2019-20 Trojans look to continue the upward trend.
ROSTER BREAKDOWN -- There are a total of 15 players on the 2019-20 USC men's basketball roster. The Trojan team by class are: Seniors (5): Quinton Adlesh (G), McKay Anderson (G), Jonah Mathews (G), Nick Rakocevic (F), Daniel Utomi (G); Juniors (1): Noah Baumann (G); Sophomores (3): Talin Lewis (G), Charles O'Bannon Jr. (G), Elijah Weaver (G); Freshman (6): Max Agbonkpolo (F), Ethan Anderson (G), Drake London (G), Isaiah Mobley (F), Onyeka Okongwu (F), Kyle Sturdivant (G).
TROJANS EXCEL ON FOREIGN SUMMER TOUR -- The USC men's basketball team went on an 11-day foreign summer tour (Aug. 6-16) to Spain and France. The Trojans traveled to Barcelona, Spain, Cannes, France, Moncaco and Paris, France. The Trojans spent three nights in Barcelona, Cannes and Paris and played a game in each city. USC went 3-0 on the trip, defeating a Spanish Select team 102-51 in Barcelona on Aug. 8, a French Select team 90-67 on Aug. 11 in Cannes and a Lithuania Select team 105-83 on Aug. 14 in Paris. USC made 52.3 percent of its shot on the trip and Onyeka Okongwu averaged 20.3 points and 10.7 rebounds, while Nick Rakocevic averaged 13.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Among the cultural highlights were a tour of La Sagrada Familia, a tour of the FC Barcelona Nou Camp, a catamaran trip to Ile Saint-Honorat, a day trip to Monaco and a Siene River boat cruise. RECAP OF THE 2018-19 SEASON -- The 2018-19 Trojans went 16-17 and ranked tops in the Pac-12 in three-point field goal percentage, assists and assist to turnover ratio, while being one of the conference's top scoring teams. The Trojans knocked off Arizona before falling 78-75 to Pac-12 regular season champion Washington in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT -- The 2019-20 season is Villanova's 100th season of college basketball. Villanova returns three starters from last season's team which went 26-10 and captured the Big East regular season and tournament title. The Wildcats also have a five-man freshman class ranked No. 5 by 247Sports. Over the last six seasons, Villanova has posted a 191-31 record for an average of 31.8 victories per season. USC is 1-1 all-time against Villanova in the regular season, winning 82-65 on Dec. 8, 1967 and falling 94-79 on Nov. 28, 2013.
TROJANS HOST FLORIDA A&M IN OPENER -- USC will open the 2019-20 season by hosting Florida A&M at the Galen Center on November 5 at 8:00 p.m. The Rattlers were 12-19 last season, going 9-7 in Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) play to finish tied for 5th. It will be the first-ever meeting between USC and FAMU in men's basketball.
USC'S FRESHMAN CLASS RANKED NO. 7 - USC's freshman class of Max Agbonkpolo, Ethan Anderson, Drake London, Isaiah Mobley, Onyeka Okongwu and Kyle Sturdivant was ranked No. 7 by 247Sports.com. Agbonkpolo led Santa Margarita Catholic to the CIF Southern Section Div. I title by scoring 23 points and hitting the game winner. He was ranked as the No. 5 prospect in California and No. 52 nationally by 247Sports. Anderson was the L.A. City Section Player of the Year and he led Fairfax High to the Open Division Championship. He ranked as the No. 4 point guard in California. London, at USC on a football scholarship as a wide receiver, was named to the CIF Southern Section Div. 4 first team as he averaged 29.2 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Mobley was a 2019 McDonald's All-American and was ranked as the No. 1 recruit in Califonia and No. 15 nationally. Okongwu was named California "Mr. Basketball" each of the last two years and was ranked No. 17 nationally by ESPN.com. Sturdivant was named the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 12 point guard in the country by 247Sports.com.
PAC-12 PRESEASON HONORS -- Senior forward Nick Rakocevic was named to the inaugural Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference team, announced at Pac-12 Media Day on Oct. 8 in San Francisco, Calif. Senior guard Jonah Mathews and freshman forward Isaiah Mobley were named honorable mention. USC was picked to finish fifth by Pac-12 media and received one of the 27 first-place votes.
