Chang and Corpuz tie for third at 6-under.
Junior Jennifer Chang pocketed a season-best 3-under 69 while senior Allisen Corpuz carded her third straight 2-under 70, a final round matched by sophomore Malia Nam, to lead No. 4 USC on the final day of the Windy City Collegiate as the Trojans finished the tournament second on Tuesday (Oct. 1) at the Glen View Club in Golf, Ill.
USC, which began the day two off the lead and one back of South Carolina, briefly tied the Gamecocks for first after the turn, but settled for second at 11-under 853 (286-282-285). South Carolina won at 14-under 853 while Florida, which led entering today, took third at 6-under 858. The Trojans won the event last year.
Corpuz (70-70-70) and Chang (70-71-69) tied for third at 6-under 210, five back of South Carolina winner Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and two behind Florida's Sierra Brooks.
For Corpuz, her performance was a career-best under par over 54 holes. She started the day inauspiciously with bogeys on 1 and 2 before a birdie on 4. She eagled 8 and birdied 9 to turn at 2-under. A double bogey on 11 wiped that out, but she closed with birdies on 12 and 16 to clinch her best finish as a Trojan over 54 holes.
Chang, following a tie for eighth in USC's season opener, now has six top 8 finishes in her last seven starts dating back to last season. She was 1-under through six holes today, carded 10 straight pars, and closed with two more birdies for her 12th career round in the 60s.
Nam, who joined junior Amelia Garvey this week in making their season debuts, tied for 15th at par 216 (74-72-70). She turned at 1-under today and was 2-under before a double on 13 squared her day. Like Chang, she used two late birdies to get back under par.
Garvey tied for 29th at 3-over 219 (72-71-76) with three birdies in her final round. Senior Aiko Leong, who led USC in its season opener at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, tied for 53rd at 8-over 224 (78-70-76), her round highlighted by birdies on 17 and 18.
USC played this week without junior Gabriela Ruffels, will play in the Japan Open Women's Golf Championships starting Thursday.
USC returns to action at the Stanford Intercollegiate, Oct. 11-13, in Stanford, Calif.
