Trojans Win Four Events On Day 2 Of The Texas Tech Classic

Owens sets school indoor heptathlon record
USC's Ayden Owens won the men's heptathlon with a school record, Kaelin Roberts won the women's 400m, Chanel Brissett the women's 60m hurdles and TeeTee Terry the women's 60m dash during the second day of action at the Texas Tech Classic in Lubbock, Texas today (Jan. 25).
- The freshman Owens won the men's heptathlon with a school-record point total of 5,642, breaking Viktor Fajoyomi's mark of 5,544 set in 2014. Owens began his work on Thursday, winning the 60m dash with a time of 6.79 (958 points), taking second in the long jump with a leap of 22-8.50/6.92m (795 points), winning the shot put with a mark of 44-2.75/13.48m (697 points) and placing fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-3.25/1.91m (723 points). He led after day one with 3,173 points. He opened action on Friday by winning he 60m hurdles with a time of 7.85 (1,020 point), then placed third in the pole vault at 14-3.25/4.35m (716 points) and finishing second in the 1,000m race with a time of 2:53.19 (733 points). Owens won the event by 136 points.
- Senior Lyndsey Lopes competed in the women's pentathlon on Thursday, January 24 and placed third overall with 3,655 points. She was third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.68 (978 points), fourth in the high jump at 5-7.25/1.71m (867 points), eighth in the shot put with a mark of 31-2/9.50m (587 points), ninth in the long jump with a best leap of 17-3.25/5.26m (631 points) and sixth in the 800m race with a time of 2:30.84 (682 points).
- Sophomore Kaelin Roberts won the first heat of the women's 400m race with a PR of 52.25 and after all 12 heats were completed she was champion. Roberts moved from sixth to third on USC's all-time indoor 400m list. Bailey Lear took second in the third 400m heat and place fifth overall with a time of 53.54, while Kyra Constantine won the second heat and finished sixth overall with a time of 53.76.
- Sophomore Cameron Samuel placed ninth in the men's 400m race with a PR of 47.21 which moved him from seventh to sixth on USC's all-time list. Freshman Devin Bright ran 49.17 to finish 30th and fellow freshman Talin Lewis ran 50.76 to finish 36th.
- Sophomore TeeTee Terry won the women's 60m dash with a PR of 7.15 to move from tied for third with Virginia Powell (Crawford) to second on USC's all-time list. Terry ran her 7.21 in the first round, the fastest qualifier for the finals. Freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas had a PR of 7.28 to finish third in the 60m dash and she moved into an eighth-place tie on USC's all-time list. She had a time of 7.34 in the first round. Senior Ky Westbrook placed fourth in the 60m finals with a time of 7.41, after running 7.44 in the first round. Sophomore Chanel Brissett had a PR of 7.50 in the first round to finish 12th overall. She ran her previous PR of 7.51 in the qualifier to reach the first round.
- Freshman Brendon Stewart placed fifth in the men's 60m dash final with a time of 6.64. Stewart had a PR of 6.63 to finish second in the first round and move from tied for seventh to sixth on USC's all-time list. It also bettered his USC freshman record in the event. He also had a time of 6.67 to win the 60m qualifier. Sophomore Earvin da Silva ran 6.90 in the qualifier to finish 18th and freshman Daniel Robinson ran 6.96 to finish 27th. Freshman Eric Allen Jr. had a false start in the qualifier.
- Brissett won the women's 60m hurdles final with a PR of 7.98 which moved her from sixth to fourth on USC's all-time list in the event. USC captured the top four spots as junior Anna Cockrell was second (8.06), junior Mecca McGlaston was third (PR of 8.10 which bettered her seventh-place standing on USC's all-time list) and senior Dior Hall was fourth (8.14). The group also took the top four spots in the prelims, each by winning her heat: Hall (8.09), Brissett (8.10), McGlaston (8.12) and Cockrell (8.16).
- Junior Nathan Bultman placed second in the men's weight throw with a best mark of 65-10.25/20.07m.
- Sophomore Joy McArthur placed fifth in the women's weight throw, notching her three career-best throws in the final rounds. Her best was her fifth-round PR of 57-5.00/17.50m which moves her into a second-place tie on USC's all-time list.
