USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps Lindenwood In Final Round Of Grow The Game Challenge

Jack Wyett had 19 kills while hitting .457 to lead the USC men's volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-21, 32-30 victory over Lindenwood in the final round of the Off The Block Grow The Game Challenge on Sunday (Jan. 20) in Lebanon, Tenn.
USC, which went 2-1 in the tourney with a first round sweep over Lincoln Memorial and a 4-set loss to Barton in the second round, improved to 4-2 on the year. Lindenwood, an NCAA Division II team which competes in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, fell to 1-4.
USC hit .378 overall in the match and served 7 aces, while Lindenwood hit .342.
Ryan Moss added 11 kills and 4 blocks for the Trojans, Gianluca Grasso had 9 kills and 5 digs, Matt Douglas had 6 digs and Tyler Resnick served 3 aces.
For Lindenwood, Nick Stevenson had 12 kills while hitting .381, Connor Hipelius hit .667 with 11 kills, Brad Brinkerhoff had 7 kills and Adam Brewster had 8 digs.
The first set was tight until USC scored 6 of the final 7 points (the Trojans hit .400). It was a similar scenario in the second set as Troy tallied 6 of the final 8 points. USC held a 10-5 lead in the third set, but Lindenwood tied it at 11-11 and went up 20-18 before the Trojans knotted it at 21-21, then the set seesawed until Troy got the final 3 points on a Grasso kill, a Lion hitting error and a Resnick ace.
USC next opens home play when it hosts No. 2 UC Irvine on Wednesday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m. PT in the Galen Center.
