No. 2 Trojans Grind Out OT Win at Cal
September 27, 2018 | Women's Soccer, Features
BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 2 USC women's soccer team outshot California 25-4, but had to go to overtime in the Bay Area to secure a 1-0 win thanks to an Ashleigh Plumptre goal in the 94th minute.
The win moves the Trojans to 9-0-1 on the year and 2-0-0 in Pac-12 play, while Cal falls to 4-5-1, 0-2-0. It was the eighth shutout of the year for USC.
USC had chances throughout the contest, dominating possession in both halves, but couldn't break through a compact Bears defense. It wasn't until Alea Hyatt sent a ball towards the front of the goal and the Cal keeper fumbled the save, that Plumptre was there to put the game away.
Kaylie Collins had to make just one save on the day to notch her sixth solo-shutout of the year. The suffocating Trojan defense gave up just one shot in the first half, two in the second half and one early in overtime. Collins lone save came on a shot right at her in the second minute of OT.
GOAL
94' – USC: Ashleigh Plumptre (unassisted) – Alea Hyatt sent in a cross from the right side and out of a scrum in front of the net, Plumptre was there to punch home the game-winning goal.
