July 06, 2018 | Women's Water Polo, Features
Courtney Fahey and Brianna Daboub collect their third set of academic accolades to go with another NCAA championship.
The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches released its All-Academic honor roll with a program record eight USC women's players on the list for 2018. The previous best tally of Trojan academic honorees had been seven, but the 2018 NCAA Champions have raised the bar in another realm in locking up eight ACWPC All-Academic honorees. Led by three-time selections Brianna Daboub and Courtney Fahey, USC boasts six first-timers on the honor roll in senior Nicola Gonzales, junior Tamar Kazanjian, sophomore Alaina Cousineau and freshmen Nina Ceklic, Kari Jensen, and Nadia Pavlovich.
All eight Trojans boast cumulative GPAs of at least 3.2. Tops among the group are Alaina Cousineau and Tamar Kazanjian, who have earned Outstanding honors with GPAs of 3.76 and 3.82, respectively. Cousineau is majoring in cognitive science, and Kazanjian — a recent transfer to USC — is majoring in health and human sciences.
Earning Superior status this year are junior Courtney Fahey and freshman Nina Ceklic. Fahey, a health and human sciences major, grips a 3.55 GPA to snag her third All-Academic accolade as a Trojan. True freshman Ceklic, meanwhile, has posted a 3.62 GPA and is majoring in art.
On the Excellent list are four Women of Troy, headlined by another three-time honoree, senior captain Brianna Daboub. Also an All-American, Daboub graduates with a 3.29 GPA as a health and human sciences major, having captained her Trojans through two NCAA championships during her tenure at Troy. Fellow senior Nicola Gonzales has secured her first academic selection with a 3.29 GPA as a communication major. Joining the two seniors on the honor roll in their first season as Trojans are true freshmen Kari Jensen and Nadia Pavlovich. Pavlovich holds a 3.3 GPA as a chemical engineering major, and Jensen has a 3.24 GPA as a health and human sciences major.
