The 2018 graduate next embarks in a career at Google
USC senior Pawel Furtek, the 2018 Pac-12 Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic first team selection, has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large third team, CoSIDA announced Thursday (June 14).
Furtek graduated this May with a 3.92 grade-point average in computer engineering & computer science and is starting his professional career at Google.
The former Polish national teamer recorded five career top-six finishes at the Pac-12 Championships and made two trips to the NCAA Championships, where he scored in the 1650y free in 2016. The distance freestyler is among USC's all-time top 10 in the 1,000- and 1,650-yard free.
Furtek earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 At-Large Team accolades in 2017 and 2018 and is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American with first-team laurels in 2016 and honorable mention recognition in 2015 and 2017. He is eligible for his fourth CSCAA award this year.
Alex Lendrum was USC's last men's CoSIDA Academic All-American, earning first team honors in 2013. Anika Apostalon won first team honors last year for the women's team and diver Haley Ishimatsu did so in 2015.
