Holt And Smith Wrap NCAA Action In Round of 16

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — USC's Brandon Holt and Riley Smith had their NCAA Individual runs come to a close today, as Holt fell in the NCAA Singles Round of 16 before joining forces with Smith in a Round of 16 doubles loss this afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Up against Ohio State's top gun and No. 6 seed in the NCAA Singles draw, Mikael Torpegaard, Holt stuck close with the senior Buckeye in the first set but lost some ground in the second, falling 7-5, 6-3 to wrap the Trojan sophomore's All-American singles run with a 25-12 overall record to once again stand as USC's winningest singles player on the year.

Holt would team back up with fellow sophomore Riley Smith on the doubles courts hours later, up against Memphis' #40 Peniston/Watson. The Trojans ran out of steam in this one, taking a 6-4, 6-1 loss that ends their 2018 campaign in the NCAA Round of 16. Holt and Smith — ranked #10 in the nation — finish the year with a 17-5 overall record,
