Matadors Drop Trojans 2-1 in Extra Innings

LOS ANGELES – Despite allowing just one hit through nine innings of play, the USC baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision in 10 innings to Cal State Northridge.
Both teams scored in the second inning and then the pitching on each side cruised from there until the Matadors manufactured a run in the 10th. USC falls to 25-27 with the loss and CSUN moves to 27-29.
Kyle Hurt tossed 7.1 strong innings for the Trojans, giving up just one hit and one run to take the no-decision. John Beller threw 2.2 innings, giving up two hits and the game-winning run. Walker Armstrong also tossed 7.0 strong innings for the matadors to take a no-decision, while Hayden Shenefield got the win after 2.1 relief innings.
After drawing a walk, CSUN's Ben Martz rounded first and kept going for second, getting into a rundown between the bases. Martz dove back to first and the throw ricocheted off his helmet and allowed Joey Cooper to score from third.
Brandon Perez drove in the lone run for USC on a groundout in the second. Kyle Barret also had an RBI groundout for the Matadors in the second.
