Brandon Holt Wins In NCAA Singles First Round

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — USC sophomore Brandon Holt dug in for a three-set victory in the first round of NCAA Singles competition today at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, N.C. Up against Florida State's Guy Iradukunda, the 9-16 seeded Holt shrugged off a second-set loss and pressed on for a decisive third to claim a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win that propels the USC sophomore into his first appearance in the NCAA Singles Second Round.

Tomorrow (May 24), Holt will pull double duty in NCAA action as he is also paired with fellow sophomore Riley Smith for their second appearance in the NCAA Doubles draw. For his singles bout, Holt will line up against Oklahoma's Alexander Bakshi in their Second Round meeting. In doubles, Holt and Smith will take on 5-8 seed Touliatos/Valero in their NCAA Doubles First Round matchup. On the other side of the doubles bracket, 5-8 seeded Trojans Jack Jaede and Laurens Verboven square off against Tulane's Moore/Schmitz in the Trojan pair's NCAA debut.
