It's Opening Day in the MLB, and nine Trojans are kicking off their quests to hoist the World Series Trophy.
Four players and six coaches are in action at the start of the MLB season.
Brad Boxberger, who played at USC from 2007-09, was recently named the Arizona Diamondbacks' closer. The vet is going into his seventh year in the league.
Pitcher Andrew Triggs is heading into his third year in the league, all with the Oakland A's.
USC's most seasoned player in the league is Kansas City Royals pitcher Ian Kennedy (pictured below), who's going into Year 14. He's joined on the Royals by fellow USC alum Lucas Duda, who's starting at first base.
Aaron Boone, the first-year manager of the New York Yankees, is perhaps the most notable Trojan in the league. Boone played three seasons at USC (1992-94), batting .302 with 11 home runs and 94 RBI before a successful professional career, followed by a role as an analyst at ESPN. Also on staff with Boone is USC alum Jason Brown, who will serve as the team's catching coach.
USC alumni Brent Strom (pitching coach) and Rich Dauer (first base coach) are coming off a World Series title with the Houston Astros, and are looking to replicate their success in 2018.
Returning to Southern California will be former USC pitching great Mark Prior as the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen coach. Lastly, Mark McGwire will begin his third year as the San Diego Padres' bench coach.
These coaches and players will continue USC baseball's unparalleled MLB tradition.
USC has produced 111 major leaguers over the years — more than any other school in the nation. Trojans boast 67 All-Star appearances, 29 World Series appearances, nine Cy Young awards, three Hall of Famers, three Rookie of the Year Awards, one American League MVP and one World Series MVP.
