No. 4 USC Takes Pair of Pac-12 South Invitational Wins

The Women of Troy defeated No. 16 California, 3-2, and Arizona State, 4-1
SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The No. 4-ranked USC beach volleyball team (13-6) defeated 16th-ranked California (11-2) and snapped the Golden Bears' winning streak with a 3-2 victory and then took down Arizona State (3-9) with a 4-1 decision at Ocean Park Beach to open the 2018 Pac-12 South Invitational on Saturday, March 24.

The Trojans won first sets on each of the top four courts against the Golden Bears, but only clinched the dual when senior Jenna Belton and freshman Haley Hallgren completed a 21-16, 25-23 win over Bryce Bark and Madison Dueck on court three. The Bears earned points on courts four and five. The two points scored were Cal's first-ever dual points against the Trojans.

USC went up, 2-0, against the Sun Devils with wins at the top two courts, but found itself in a trio of third-set battles. Arizona State scored its point from court five, but the Trojans were able to clinch the dual when Belton and senior Jo Kremer completed a 21-18, 17-21, 15-13 win over Katie Cross and Cierra Flood at the No. 4 position.

The host Trojans will face No. 11 Arizona (9-5) at 10 a.m. PT and then conclude the tournament with a dual against No. 14 Stanford (10-4) at 1 p.m. on Sunday (March 25).
