No. 4 USC Hosts Pac-12 South Invitational in Santa Monica

The Women of Troy will host 14 duals at Ocean Park Beach this weekend
LOS ANGELES – No. 4th-ranked USC beach volleyball team (11-6) hosts the Pac-12 South Invitational this weekend (March 24-25) at Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica, Calif. Among competing teams, the Trojans will face No. 11 Arizona (9-3), No. 14 Stanford (8-4), No. 16 California (11-1), and Arizona State (3-7). Also in action, No. 2 UCLA (14-3) and No. 19 Washington (2-1) will be on Santa Monica sand. The Bruins and the Sun Devils open play on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. PT. Duals are set at one-hour intervals with seven each day. Arizona State and Washington will meet for the final of 14 duals scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Results will be posted to USCTrojans.com throughout the invitational.

SCOUTING REPORT: No. 11-ranked Arizona (9-3) suffered its only three losses to ranked opponents Long Beach State, LMU, and Cal Poly. The Wildcats won both matches at the Monterey Invitational last weekend: 4-1 over San Jose State and 5-0 over Santa Clara. No. 14 Stanford (8-4) is on an eight-match winning streak since dropping four duals to open the season. The four losses were to Hawai'i and UCLA. No. 16 California (11-1) has won all 11 of its matches consecutively since falling to Saint Mary's College, 3-2, to open the season. Among those 11 victories are seven 5-0 sweeps. Arizona State (3-7) has lost its last three entering the weekend. Four of ASU's losses have been 3-2 decisions. USC holds a combined 19-0 record against this weekend's competition. The only Pac-12 team that the Trojans have ever lost to is rival UCLA; once in the 2017 Pac-12 championship and once at home this season. The Women of Troy have only faced Stanford once previously—a 5-0 win on The Farm on April 18, 2017.

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS: On Saturday, April 23, 2016, USC defeated Hawai'i, 3-0, to make head coach Anna Collier the first collegiate beach volleyball coach to reach the 100 career victories mark. She is now 157-24 (.867) all-time. The next closest coach is Pepperdine's Nina Matthies who reached 100 in 2017.

POW-WOW: USC pairs have won the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week award 12 times since its inception in 2016. Abril Bustamante and Terese Cannon claimed the first award of 2018 on Feb. 27. In 2017, USC pairs claimed five of the eight awards. All-Americans Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes are owners of a record five Pac-12 POW awards. Seniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer became the first-ever No. 5 pair to win the honor on March 21, 2017.
