Trojans Fall at No. 3 Stanford, 11-1
March 24, 2018 | Baseball, Features
PALO ALTO, Calif. – The USC baseball team couldn't solve the puzzle of Stanford lefty Kris Bubic on Saturday as the Cardinal starter tossed 7.0 scoreless innings to shut down the Trojan bats in an 11-1 USC loss.
Bubic had a perfect game going into the seventh inning until Matthew Acosta worked a leadoff walk and Dillon Paulson singled up the middle. USC couldn't convert a run in the inning, however, leaving both runners on. Bubic would give up just the one hit while striking out six in his 7.0 innings of work.
The loss drops the Trojans to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in Pac-12 play, while Stanford moves to 16-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The teams will wrap the series up tomorrow.
The USC arms held the game close through the first few innings, with starter Quentin Longrie giving up his only runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Stanford would break things open with three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh. USC got a run back in the top of the eighth after Bubic gave way to Austin Weiermiller, courtesy of an RBI single by Matthew Acosta.
