No. 12 USC Overcomes Oregon in Overtime for Third Straight Win

The Women of Troy played in their third overtime in four contests
LOS ANGELES – The No. 12-ranked USC lacrosse team (5-3, 3-0 Pac-12) needed overtime to complete a 9-8 win over Oregon (4-3, 2-2) at McAlister Field on Sunday, March 18. The win is the third straight for the Women of Troy and is the 21st consecutive league victory.

- Senior goalie Gussie Johns had eight saves and led the team with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Miller scored the game-winning goal and had two goals on the day (both from free position) to go with three ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
- Sophomore midfielder Kaeli Huff and sophomore attacker Hope Anhut each scored two goals apiece for the Trojans.
- For Oregon, Brittany Read had 15 saves and seven ground balls. Mariah Gatti scored a hat trick and had two draw controls. Jill Zubillaga scored two goals including the final equalizer with just eight seconds left in regulation. Shannon Williams led all players with four points on two goals and two assists.
- The Trojans scored the first three goals of the game over the first 5:26 and led, 6-2, when Huff scored her second goal of the game on an assist from senior attacker Alexis Kardias.
- Oregon responded to pull within a goal at 6-5 when the Ducks scored three goals (two from free position) in just 61 seconds.
- It took 17 minutes before either team scored in the second half. Oregon's goal by Shannon Williams tied the score at seven-all. Anhut scored with seven minutes left to play to put USC on top, 8-7. The Trojans made the necessary stops down the stretch, but surrendered a crucial ball to allow Zubillaga to score the tying goal with eight seconds to play in regulation.
- Zubillaga won the draw in overtime, but Johns stepped out of the crease for the takeaway and put the Trojans on offense. In the attacking third, Miller drew a foul and scored the game-winning goal from free position.
- USC concludes the first half of the Pac-12 schedule with a trip to the Bay Area to face California (4-5, 0-3 Pac-12) on Friday (March 23) and No. 19 Stanford (4-3, 1-1) on Sunday (March 25). Both games will be streamed live on Pac-12+.
- USC improved to 5-2 all-time against Oregon and extended its streak over the Ducks to four straight.
- The Trojans played their eighth overtime game and improved to 3-5. It was the third overtime game played at McAlister, and the third one this season. It marked the first time that USC has ever played in back-to-back overtime games.
- The Women of Troy improved to 33-9 all-time at McAlister Field and moved to 37-11 in all-time home games.
- Including games won as part of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, USC won its 21st straight league game.
