Hansson, Wright Close NCAA Championships As 200 Fly A Finalists

USC finishes 12th overall.
Sophomore Louise Hansson, a day after winning a title in the 100y fly, finished third in the 200y fly while junior Maddie Wright repeated as a finalist in the race and took sixth to highlight USC's final night at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday (March 17).
The Trojans finished 12th overall with 127 points.
Hansson, who qualified for the 200y fly final seventh overall in the morning, finished third in 1:52.25, 1.03 ahead of her prelim swim. The Swedish Olympian, who was second in the 200y fly at the Pac-12 Championships, sprinted to first at the 100, but was caught at the 150 before finishing third. Stanford's Ella Eastin won the race (1:50.01) with her teammate Katie Drabot (1:51.73) just beating Hansson to the wall.
Wright, who was fifth a year ago in the A final, repeated as an A finalist thanks to a sixth in prelims in 1:53.17. She also finished sixth in the final in 1:53.40, 0.01 off her 2017 time.
USC closed the meet with a sixth-place in the B final of the 400y free relay as Hansson, freshman Marta Ciesla and sophomores Tatum Wade and Catherine Sanchez finished in 3:14.64, 0.13 better than the quartet's prelim swim.
Freshman Maggie Aroesty became a first-time NCAA scorer by winning the 200y breast B final in 2:07.06, a time that would have been fifth in the A final. Aroesty, the Pac-12 champ in the race, missed qualifying for the A final by .10 after her prelim effort of 2:08.10.
Junior Riley Scott just missed getting into the B final in the 200y breast, taking 17th in 2:09.15, 0.04 away from earning a second swim.
Sophomore Becca Mann was just outside the scoring in the 1650y free, finishing 18th in 16:05.65 while junior Elizabeth Stinson was 22nd (16:08.44). Senior Hannah Weiss, in her final NCAA race, finished 40th in the 200y back (1:55.66). Freshman Caitlin Tycz finished 33rd in the 200y fly in 1:57.60. Junior Madi Witt took 34th on platform (223.15) while sophomore Carly Souza wad 45th (184.80).
