USC Picked to Win Inaugural Pac-12 Lacrosse Title

The Women of Troy won the last two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships
LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team received five first-place votes for 25 points and was selected win the inaugural Pac-12 regular-season title according to a poll of the league's six head coaches on Monday, Feb. 5. Ranked No. 8 in the IWLCA's (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) preseason poll, the Women of Troy are two-time defending MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) champions. 2017 marked the MPSF's final season sponsoring a women's lacrosse championship.
Colorado was picked to finish second with 21 points and the other first-place vote. Stanford came in at third with 17 points and was followed by Oregon (13), California (8), and the newest Pac-12 program, Arizona State (6).
Women's lacrosse became the 13th women's sport the Pac-12 sponsors when it was added for 2018. In addition to USC, Colorado is ranked No. 17 and Stanford is ranked No. 23 in the IWLCA's preseason poll to give the conference three teams in the top 25. The first-ever Pac-12 Lacrosse Championship will be held April 26-29 at Prentup Field on the campus of host University of Colorado.
The eighth-ranked Trojans open the 2018 campaign on the road at Virginia Tech on Saturday (Feb. 10) in Blacksburg, Va. USC's second game takes place at LeBard Stadium in Costa Mesa, Calif., as part of the Orange County Lacrosse Showcase. There, the Women of Troy take on No. 2-ranked Stony Brook (Feb. 16) before a return to the road for games at No. 15 Notre Dame (Feb. 23) and at No. 11 Northwestern (Feb. 25). USC plays its first home game on March 7 as host to No. 6 Boston College at McAlister Field.
In 2017, the Trojans went 18-4 and advance to the program's second-consecutive NCAA quarterfinal game. The Trojans went 8-0 in the MPSF's final season and won the second of back-to-back regular-season and tournament titles.
USC's postseason run was its third straight bid into the NCAA tournament. The Trojans were led by first-team All-American and two-time MPSF Player of the Year Michaela Michael who finished as the program's all-time leader for goals (234), points (305), and draw controls (422). Senior defender Lydia Sutton was named a third-team IWLCA All-American and Kerrigan Miller was chosen as the MPSF's Rookie of the Year. Head coach Lindsey Munday earned her 69th-career victory and guided the program to its highest ranking (No. 3) and second-longest winning streak in school history (12).
