McLaughlin Among 10 Finalists For Cousy Award

USC senior guard Jordan McLaughlin is one of 10 players remaining on the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard, it was announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame today (Feb. 5). The award is named after the Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy and recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball.
"Mr. Cousy was an outstanding point guard at both the collegiate and professional level of the game," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "He was an exemplary player, leader and teammate and the 10 student-athletes on this list should feel proud and honored to be considered for such a prestigious award."
McLaughlin, a three-year team captain, is averaging 12.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.7 assists this season. He ranks second on USC's all-time assist list and ninth on the Pac-12 all-time assist list with 642 career dimes. McLaughlin leads all Pac-12 players this season in assists with 185, which ranks third nationally. Last season he was the only player in the country with at least three assists in every game and he has accomplished that in all 24 games this season as well, running his nation's longest streak to 61 consecutive games with at least three assists (dating back to the 2015-16 season).
McLaughlin is also second in the conference with an average of 2.0 steals per game and his 189 career steals ranks fifth on USC's all-time list. McLaughlin also ranks among USC's all-time top 10 lists in minutes played (4th), three-point field goals (8th), points scored (T-8th) and games played (T-8th).
In March, five finalist will be presented to Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif. on April 6, 2018.
