No. 13 USC Men's Volleyball Falls In 4 Sets At No. 7 Loyola-Chicago

Trojans now return home after 3-week roadtrip to start MPSF play.
The No. 7-ranked Loyola-Chicago men's volleyball team came back to defeat No. 13 USC, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 31-29, in a non-conference match on Saturday (Feb. 3) in Chicago.
It was the Trojans' (3-7) seventh straight loss after starting the 2018 season with 3 victories and it also was USC's first-ever loss to Loyola-Chicago in 5 meetings. The Ramblers improved to 7-2 overall.
Jack Wyett led USC with a match-best 16 kills and he had 8 digs, while Sam Lewis added 10 kills while hitting .333, Ryan Moss had 9 kills and 6 digs and Cole Paxson had 13 digs.
For Loyola-Chicago, Collin Mahan had 13 kills, 7 digs and 4 aces, Will Tischler added 12 kills (hitting . 318) and 8 digs, Rick Gevis had 10 kills and 7 digs, Paul Narup had 10 kills (hitting .529), Jeff Jendryk had 7 kills and 4 blocks and Garrett Zolg had 9 digs.
Loyola-Chicago outhit USC, .286 to .250, and the Ramblers served 10 aces to Troy's 2.
USC broke out to an 8-3 lead in the first set, but Loyola-Chicago tied it at 12-12 and then the set remained tight until the Trojans scored the final 5 points. Troy was up 14-11 in the second set before the Ramblers scored 5 consecutive points to go up, but USC tied it at 17-17 only to see Loyola-Chicago tally 5 of the next 6 points to gain control of the set. Loyola-Chicago got off to a 4-1 start in the third set and steadily extended the lead to 20-9 en route to capturing the set. USC built an 18-14 lead in the fourth set before the Ramblers tied it at 21-21, but the Trojans went back up 24-22 only to have Loyola-Chicago scored 3 in a row, then Troy regained the lead 3 times before the Ramblers scored the last 2 points of the match while hitting .447.
