The Women of Troy dropped a 9-5 decision to the Wildcats on the road
EVANSTON, Ill. – The sixth-ranked USC lacrosse team (2-2) was defeated, 9-5, by No. 15 Northwestern (4-1) at Martin Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 25.

KEY PLAYERS
- Senior goalie Gussie Johns had four saves and four ground balls in the Trojans' defensive effort. She kept the Wildcats out of the goal for 27:18 consecutive minutes through the belly of the game.
- Northwestern's Selena Lasota broke an NU scoring record previously held by Lindsey Munday with her second goal and completed the contest with a hat trick.
- Danita Stroup led all scorers with three goals and an assist (four points) for the Wildcats. Shelby Fredericks had six draw controls to lead all players.
- Down, 4-1, the Women of Troy took the lead thanks to a 4-0 scoring run that included goals by Emily Concialdi, Izzy McMahon, Maeve McMahon, and Kelsey Huff.
- Between 10:55 left in the first half and 13:37 in the second, the Trojans held the Wildcats scoreless for 27:18.
- The Wildcats broke the game open with a 5-0 scoring run that included all three of Selena Lasota's goals between 13:37 and 1:34. Northwestern then held on to complete the 9-5 win.
- USC will not play next week, but is back in action for the first of four consecutive home games. The Trojans will host No. 5-ranked Boston College on McAlister Field for a 3 p.m. PT game on Wednesday, March 7. The meeting is a rematch of last year's NCAA quarterfinal game in which the Eagles defeated the Trojans.
GAME NOTES
- USC drops to 2-4 all-time against Northwestern and has its two-match winning streak over the Wildcats snapped.
- The Trojans fell to 1-2 in games played in the state of Illinois. The other loss was also to Northwestern at Wrigley Field in Chicago in 2014.
