No. 1 USC Rounds Up Mustangs For 3-2 Win Over No. 14 Cal Poly

The Women of Troy completed the Sun Devil challenge with a 4-0 mark
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (4-0) took down 14th-ranked Cal Poly (3-2) by a 3-2 score to go undefeated in the Sun Devil Challenge at Pera Club on Sunday, Feb. 25. It is the 104th victory for the Trojans in their last 107 duals.
The Women of Troy claimed the first point of the dual on a 23-21, 21-9 win at court four by seniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer. The duo defeated Brayden Gruenewald and Adlee Van Winden to complete a 4-0 weekend. The Mustangs evened the score when Macy Gordon and Heather Pembroke earned a 21-17, 21-17 win over freshman Maja Kaiser and senior Alexandra Poletto at court five.
Cal Poly won first sets on each of the top two courts and then went in front, 2-1, in the dual with a 21-14, 21-18 win at court two where Samantha Manley and Emily Sonny defeated USC's freshman tandem of Haley Hallgren and Sammy Slater. The Trojans won the first set on court three, but both court one and three each split to go to decisive third sets.
At the top court, junior Abril Bustamante and senior Terese Cannon battled back to get a 17-21, 21-19, 15-13 win over Tiadora Miric and Torrey Van Winden to even the dual at two-all. With all eyes on three, sophomore Joy Dennis and junior Brianna Sizemore responded to get a 21-19, 19-21, 15-6 win over Raeann Greisen and Hannah Hubbard.
Up next, the Women of Troy open the home schedule with visits from No. 2 Pepperdine and No. 3 UCLA at Merle Norman Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The Waves and the Bruins will lock up at 1 p.m. PT. USC and UCLA meet at 2:30 p.m., and then the Trojans take on Pepperdine at 4 p.m. All three duals are scheduled to be shown on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles.
