The Women of Troy collected their first 5-0 victory of the season over Nebraska
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (3-0) defeated Nebraska (1-3) in a 5-0 sweep in the Sun Devil Challenge at the Pera Club on Sunday, Feb. 25. It is the 103rd win for the Women of Troy in their last 106 contests.
The Trojans got started with a 21-2, 21-8 win at court four where seniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer led, 19-0, in the first set over Hayley Densberger and Anezka Szabo. At court five, sophomores Cammie Dorn and Lainy Thomas gave USC a 2-0 lead with a 27-25, 21-18 win over Allie Havers and Jasmine Schmidt.
USC's duo of junior Abril Bustamante and senior Terese Cannon delivered the clinching point with a 21-12, 21-15 win over Kelly Hunter and Lauren Stivrins at the top court. The Trojans' fourth point came from the third court where sophomore Joy Dennis and junior Brianna Sizemore dispatched of Sami Slaughter and Jazz Sweet, 21-11, 21-9.
The sweep went into the books when the Trojans' freshman duo of Haley Hallgren and Sammy Slater took down Annika Albrecht and Kenzie Maloney, 21-18, 21-15. In a non-counting sixth match, freshman Maja Kaiser and senior Alexandra Poletto defeated Kenzie Maloney and Chesney McLellan, 21-8, 21-11.
The Women of Troy conclude the ASU Invitational against No. 14 Cal Poly (3-1) at 1 p.m. MT (noon PT) at the Pera Club.
