Women of Troy Sweep First Through Fourth Place in Women's Open 2- at San Diego Fall Classic
November 11, 2018 | Women's Rowing, Features
The USC women's rowing team competed in their only fall regatta today (Nov. 11) at the San Diego Fall Classic at Mission Bay - Crown Point in San Diego, and they proved to be the strongest competitors on the water. The Trojans entered four boats in the Women's Open 2- and swept the top four finishes out of a field of seven boats.
"We had a great regatta this morning at the San Diego Fall Classic," said head coach Josh Adam. "We want to thank Chris Callaghan and the entire regatta staff for a great event. It was amazing to see alumnae, parents and friends along Crown Point shores. The coaching staff was very proud of the entire team's efforts. The team really took advantage of the opportunity to teach our new additions how to race as the Women of Troy.
"The Open Novice 8+ executed the skills and fitness they had been working on in practice. The pairs and the fours highlighted both the returning varsity members' skills and the walk-ons' fitness level since it was their second race of the day. We are looking forward to taking these technical and racing skills back into training and preparing for the spring 2,000 meter season."
The USC Novice team placed second in the Women's Open Frosh/Novice 8+ with a time of 19:29.083 behind first place finisher San Diego State.
The Women of Troy swept the top four places in the Women's Open 2-. USC's C pair placed first with a time of 19.37.438, while pairs B, D and A finished second, third and fourth with times of 20:32.975, 20:35.260 and 22:31.118, respectively.
In the final race of the day, the Women's Open 4+, the Trojans claimed the top three finishes and the seventh place finish. USC's A boat claimed first place with a time of 18:48.229, while boats D and B finished second and third with times of 19:22.207 and 19:30.071, respectively. The Trojan C boat placed seventh with a time of 20:21.770.
