Ally Prisock scores her first career goal to record the game-winner vs. Arizona.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 2 USC women's soccer team rang up its 10th win of the 2018 season with another decisive shutout – the Trojans' ninth of the year – in posting a 2-0 win over visiting Arizona at McAlister Field. The game-winner would go to Ally Prisock, as the senior defender punched in her first career goal with a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of play.
Thanks to a second-half score from Natalie Jacobs, USC was well on its way to victory, improving to 10-1-1 overall and to 3-1-0 in Pac-12 play with the victory. Arizona goes to 8-3-1, 1-3-1.
The USC defense saw just two shots on goal in the match, with sophomore goalkeeper Kaylie Collins making an athletic leaping save on the first close call from the Wildcats. She'd haul in an easy save in the second before giving way to freshman Mackenna Carmichael for the final 10 minutes of USC's defensive shutout.
On the offensive end, USC drew first blood after Leah Pruitt, on the attack in the area, was bundled down in the 32nd minute. That prompted head coach Keidane McAlpine to call up Prisock for the penalty attempt, and the savvy senior drilled her first career goal to take her Trojans ahead 1-0.
In the second half, the USC offensive onslaught continued. In the 49th, Arlie Jones collected the ball and deposited to Jalen Woodward, who was in position for a look on frame but who opted instead to slot it into the box for an oncoming Natalie Jacobs at the far post. Jacobs made the most of the setup and hammered it home for the 2-0 USC advantage. Savannah DeMelo would continue to be instrumental in interrupting the Wildcats to key USC attacks. Arizona's best chance of the half came off of a foul in the 66th minute, but the low attempt was collected by Collins.
GOALS
31' – USC: Ally Prisock (penalty kick) – Leah Pruitt was taken down in the area to set up a penalty kick, which was deposited with authority by senior Prisock for her first career goal.
49' – USC: Natalie Jacobs (Jalen Woodward, Arlie Jones) – Jones collected the ball outside the area and fed it to Woodward. She'd take a look to strike before slipping it to the far post for Jacobs to finish with a low blast for her fourth goal of the year.
