October 28, 2018 | Women's Soccer, Features
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 2 USC women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at Utah on Sunday afternoon in its final Pac-12 regular-season road game.
The Trojans move to 15-1-2 on the year and 8-1-1 in Pac-12 play, while Utah moves to 8-8-2, 5-4-1.
It was the 13th shutout of the season for the Trojan defense, which has given up a total of seven goals all year. Kaylie Collins made five saves in net for USC, while her counterpart Carly Nelson made 11 saves as the star of the game for Utah.
The Trojans threatened throughout the game, but were unable to sneak one past Nelson. USC outshot Utah 21-10 and put 11 balls on target in the game. Penelope Hocking had an attempt just saved in the 17th minute as USC put the pressure on early, and then Hocking was again denied late in the second half by another diving save from Nelson. Savannah DeMelo also just missed a goal late when her long-range shot went just over the crossbar.
Collins made some highlights-reel saves of her own, knocking away a header off a corner kick in the ninth minute, and then coming up with a diving stop in the 47th minute as well.
The Trojans got off four shots in overtime, but couldn't find the back of the net.
