LOS ANGELES – Freshman Penelope Hocking scored the first hat trick of the season for the USC women's soccer team and the No. 2 Trojans cruised to a 5-0 win over Oregon at home on Sunday afternoon.
USC moves to 14-1-1 overall and 7-1-0 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon falls to 7-8-1, 1-7-0. It was the last game of the regular season at McAlister field for the Trojans as the team will play its final home game at the StubHub Center against UCLA on November 2. USC will finish the regular season 9-0 at McAlister Field.
The Trojans jumped out of the gates and scored three goals in the first 22 minutes of play to take a 3-0 lead into the break. A pair of second half goals would cap the day on the second 5-0 win of the week for USC.
Hocking scored the first two goals of the game and then notched the first goal of the second half to give her the team lead with 12 goals on the year. Leah Pruitt notched two assists in the game, setting up Hocking once and Savannah DeMelo for the third goal of the game. Five different Trojans notched assists in the game.
The Trojan defense was also dominant once again, as USC outshot Oregon 20-5 on the day and had a 7-2 corner kicks advantage. It was the 11th shutout of the year for USC and the fifth in Pac-12 play.
