LOS ANGELES – The No. 2 USC women's soccer team got two-goal performances from Leah Pruitt and Penelope Hocking, and notched its 10th shutout of the year in a 5-0 victory over Oregon State on Thursday afternoon at McAlister Field.
The victory moves USC to 13-1-1 overall and 6-1-0 in Pac-12 play, while the Beavers fall to 2-13-0, 1-6-0 on the year.
The Trojans scored twice in the first half, with Pruitt and Tara McKeown taking turns assisting on each other's goals in the 8th and 17th minutes. Hocking notched both of her goals in the second half, hitting the back of the net right out of the break in the 47th minute and then putting the capper on the day with a 66th minute goal, getting assists from Savannah DeMelo on both plays.
Pruitt scored her second goal in the 50th minute with a turnaround laser that ducked underneath the crossbar. It was the senior's second game this year with two goals and an assist.
The USC defense was equally as effective in the game, allowing the Beavers to take just two shots on the day, with both coming in the second half. Kaylie Collins made one save and played the bulk of the minutes in goal, while Anna Smith made her collegiate debut late in the second half and made a save as well.
