The No. 13-ranked USC men's volleyball team was swept in a non-conference match at No. 1 Long Beach State, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16, on Saturday (Jan. 27).

USC built a 14-10 lead in the first set, but Long Beach State tied it at 15-15 and soon after moved out to a 19-17 margin and the Trojans couldn't catch up as the 49ers hit .500 and served 3 aces in the set. USC started the second set with a 4-2 lead, but LBSU scored 8 of the next 9 points (including 7 in a row) for a 10-5 lead before Troy pulled within 16-15, only to see the 49ers go on a 3-point run to restore order (they had 4 aces in the set). A 4-point run early in the third set gave Long Beach State an 8-4 edge and the 49ers steadily pulled away while hitting .500 and getting 3 blocks.
USC remains on the road next week for a pair of non-conference matches against Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponents, first playing at No. 10 Lewis on Friday (Feb. 2) and then visiting No. 7 Loyola-Chicago on Saturday (Feb. 3).
