Holt And Smith To Face Off In Oracle ITA Masters Mixed Doubles

MALIBU, CALIF. — Brandon Holt and Tanner Smith will face off against one another tomorrow (Sept. 23) at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu after Round of 16 wins with their respective mixed doubles partners today. Holt will also pull double duty in the singles draw after picking up two more strong wins to score a spot in tomorrow's semifinals against the draw's No. 3 seed.

Holt started the day with a three-set win over host Pepperdine's Dennis Uspenski, beating the Wave 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to move out of the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals later today, Holt delivered a straight-set win over Michail Pervolarkais of Portland. The 6-4, 6-0 decision pushed No. 2 seeded Holt on through to the semifinals tomorrow, where he'll face No. 3 seeded Johannes Schretter of Baylor in the afternoon.

In a unique pairing for mixed doubles, Trojan Holt has teamed up to great success with UCLA's Ena Shibahara. The Trojan-Bruin duo notched a 7-5 win today in the quarterfinals over the draw's No. 8 seeded team to score a place in tomorrow's semifinals. There, Holt faces teammate Tanner Smith and his Duke partner, Kaitlyn McCarthy, to decide who gets to move on to Sunday's championship match. Smith and McCarthy upset the No. 5 seeded pair 6-4 today to earn that place in the semis.
